weekly written analysis 3

Deal Or No Deal by Howie Mandel

The current pop culture I have found for the weekly written analysis 3 is Deal or No Deal, this is a game where people play for a $1 million award.

This game is show on the NBC channel. Every Friday at night before the show starts, the participant will be confronted with 26 sealed briefcases with different money amounts. The amounts range from one million dollar to a penny. The contestants select one of the briefcases to keep as a lucky case until the end of the game.
After picking the lucky case to keep, the contestants continue to pick the remaining cases and each case will be opened and the amount of money revealed.

It all depends on how you pick the cases. If an opened case has a value higher than the offer from the banker, the offer will drop down. So the smaller the amount of money in the case, the higher chances of getting a good offer from the banker.

Howie asks the contestant a question after every four briefcase opened if It’s a Deal Or No Deal, after the banker put his offer accordingly to the last briefcase opened. The game will continue until two cases remain. A participant will either remain with his/her briefcase or exchange with the last briefcase remaining out of the 25, then he/she will open it to reveal the amount of money.(http://www.nbc.com/Deal_or_No_Deal/about/index.shtml)

Deal Or No Deal successful, Endemol have been able to introduce the game in more than 50 countries around the world. To me this game is very popular because people around the world like to watch it and also people have a chance to win money.

Weekly written analysis 2

MTV and ETV are of the channels that I like to watch reality shows on.Both channels have different kinds of reality show. I enjoy watching Run’s House and Kimora Lee’s Fab lane show. These are TV series talking about life styles. I always tune to one of the channels to watch these shows with my friends and family.

Runs House is about a family of seven, 2 daughter, and 3 boys. It shows a father, Run DMC, who has devoted his life to making sure his family gets a better life. He is a pastor in real life and still engaged on side businesses to provide more for his family. He tries to make sure his children get better education; he introduces his children to the world of music, fashions and design. His wife, is a housewife, who makes sure her family is always on the right path in life. To me this show is pop culture because even though it may be scripted, it still captures what happens in real life.

Kimora Lee’s Fab lane. Kimora is a model and business women, a mother of two girls named Ming and Kioky. She is very successful in her life. The show tries to explain how a single mom can have a career of her dreams and still take good care of her children. Kimora gets up in the morning and prepares her two girls for school and runs her business after making sure her kids are okay. She also introduced a kids clothing line that uses her own kids as models. This makes them popular because other kids look up to them and want to wear the same clothes. To me, Kimora’s show is popular because the life style she lives is what most people aspire to live and have.

2-2

CBS and Fox 28 channels show different kinds of series that revolve around peoples lives. The shows that I personal like to watch from these channels are Dora The Explorer, Family Guy and The Simpsons. Both programs I take them as the contemporary icon of pop culture. Family guy and The Simpsons have some similarities but Dora The Explorer is a kids’ orientated show. These shows can make someone learn a lot through different ideas.

THE FIRST ICON

Dora The Explorer, this is my first contemporary icon. I always watch the show with Beverlyne,Kayla,Crista,Adam, Nem and Nicole. This program makes children more creative and learn things. In most of Dora’s story, she goes on trips to help people or find something.

Dora asks her audience at home to help her find new places by using a map. Also Dora teaches childrens to learn Spanish and vocabulary. She also teaches them to love one another. My cousins and niece loves this part, they always say, they love Dora because Dora sees everyone the same. She’s always kind and gives others chances to learn more things. Kids get to enjoy the show while learning different things. Dora The Explorer has became more popular because of the educational plays she gives, a thing that makes many parents have their kids to watch it. So, to me Dora is a good example of a contemporary icon.

THE SECOND ICON
The Family guy is a show about a family of five and a dog named Brian. The show is very popular. It deals with the business of managing a family. Family guy is an adult orientated show. I like this show because it funny, controversial but sometimes motivates.

For example, one day Peter Griffin, the father of the family, decided to go into an executive bathroom because he got bored at work. When using it, he became motivated to do some changes at work. Peter started to clean his office and dress well so he may become an executive. He tried to impress his boss.

Eventually his boss was impressed by Peter and recommended an open executive position him. Peter went to Human Resource to get promoted but the HR personnel told him in order to have the position he has to finish third grade. He decided to go back to school where he was challenged by his teacher to win a spelling bee to pass the third grade. Luckly Peter won and he went back to work to have his position. But he was told he would arrested because he was responsible an exploitation at a children’s hospital. He received seven days in prison. Even though he did not get what he was trying to get, he still tried to put some efforts.
To me some of the Family Guy episodes motivates and are funny to watch. They also relate to peoples lives.

THE THIRD ICON
This is the final icon. The Simpsons show is one of Americans’ best series. The Simpsons show is a family of five that lives in Springfield. The series has different episodes with different themes where by a father totally forgets his responsibilities as the father and does not take care of his family. The Simpons show relates to other peoples in our life style.

Weekly written analysis 1

On Nov 4th 28 the world witnessed history onfolded as America elected the 44th President. For many, the election was much deeper that a mere battle between two political parties. It was a symbolic significant to American people and perhaphs people of all nations.
It was during the months following the election, that the former beauty queen and vice presidenial candidate Sarah Palin made history of her own for her sense of style. Eversince she walked into the spotlight, the mother of five had been a topic of discussion from family crisis to rather stylish wardrob she display during the campaign.
However, it was her signature Kazilo Kawasaki glasses that made her a popular icon. According to internet reports the galsses has became a must have fashion trend for men and women. Jeff Brown, an owner of Oaklawn Boutique reported not only he had been receiving calls nonstop from people across the nation trying to steal the Palin look but retaillers have also contacted to add the the fast becoming fashion hit to their collections. “ the exposure she has given them is phenomenal” concluded Mr Brown.
In addition, the article “Palin has created quite a stir ... with her designer glasses” from http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2008-09-03-palin-glasses_N.htm explains it has been awhile since the optical business has been as charged by celebrity spects as it has by the rimless pair the vice presidential nominee wears most of the time.
Inconclusion, thanks to Governor Sarah Palin the optical industry may be will no be the same because of her glases icon, also to me Sarah Palin will be a good example of a pop culture.

1-2

What is popular culture?
Popular culture refers to any act, practice, way of interaction and orientation, and certain tendencies (normally dressing styles, or eating habits) that define people’s life at a particular point in time, mostly in relation to advancements and significant changes that characterize that particular point of time. This can be spread via television, music, books, movies and other communication means.
What does it mean to you?
To me, popular culture is something that attracts people’s attention and they make it part of their daily interaction with others. For example, Sarah Palin’s spectacles design became very popular and highly demanded after she was announced to be a running mate of John McCain for the U.S presidency. Many women in the twenties and thirties were attracted to her spectacles, a thing that made them to go out and get exactly the same kind of specs, thus making it a pop culture.
Why is an understanding of popular culture relevant to you in a business environment and in your present and future career?
Popular culture plays a big part in business environment because in order for a business to successfully market itself to consumers, it has to take into account the current pop culture, which may influence consumer behavior, and base their advertising around it.
What would you consider to be an example of popular culture artifact?
Elmo from Sesame Street would be considered as an example of a pop culture artifact among children. Many kids watch Elmo, and enjoy the educational story that is passed over. For example, Count It Higher is one of Elmo’s great stories which have enabled lots of kids to know how to count. Elmo has become very popular in kids’ lives because of the educational plays it gives, a thing that makes many parents to get their kids to watch it. So, to me Elmo will be a good example of a pop culture.
